Another year of Real, then Selecao
Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti before moving to Brazil
Who will lead Brazil to the 2026 World Cup? After the early exit in Qatar, the world football giant is moving from rumor to rumor. Carlo Ancelotti is also mentioned again and again. The Real Madrid coach doesn’t want to let his club down. Now a solution seems to have been found.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is set to become coach of the Brazilian national football team for the Copa América from summer 2024. Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF), told Brazilian broadcaster TV Globo on Tuesday after the association announced the signing of Fernando Diniz on a one-year deal.
“We don’t call him an interim coach, he is the national coach. Diniz will make the transition to Ancelotti, who will take over at the Copa América,” said Rodrigues. Diniz, who continues to coach the first division club Fluminense from Rio de Janeiro, is to be introduced at a press conference today.
Ancelotti’s contract in Madrid expires next summer on June 30th, so a solution must be found with Real. Neither the 64-year-old Italian nor the Royals have yet confirmed a move to Brazil. But Ancelotti’s signing had already been reported in June. Legally, Ancelotti cannot sign with the Brazilian association until next January – six months before his contract with Los Blancos expires. But the CBF is relying on the star coach’s alleged verbal commitment, as the Spanish “Marca” also reported.
Contract for 2023/204 inviolable
The Copa will take place from June 20 to July 14, 2024 in the USA. The Champions League final is scheduled for June 1st, the Spanish La Liga ends on May 26th. After the quarter-final defeat against Croatia at the World Cup in Qatar, the previous national coach Tite announced his resignation last December. Afterwards, U20 national coach Ramon Menezes looked after the Selecao.
The Spanish sports newspaper “AS” reported in June, citing those close to Ancelotti, that the Italian had spoken to the Brazilians. But he made it very clear that his contract with Real for this season was inviolable and that he had to fully concentrate on his work in Madrid. That’s why he doesn’t want to talk about a possible change until January at the earliest. However, without any prior commitment or commitment, either oral or written, the newspaper wrote. Ancelotti was also annoyed that the association was acting as if it had already agreed to the offer.
