Gas and oil heating out – district heating connection or heat pump in. A survey shows why many homeowners avoid the latter.
The most important things at a glance
Until a few months ago, heat pumps were still considered… the Solution for heating replacement advertised. However, the hype surrounding the systems faded away within a short time. A survey now shows one of the reasons for this and also what bothers many people who want to switch to heat pumps.
According to the Energy Trend Monitor 2024, the heat pump is still the first choice for most of those surveyed when it comes to replacing the heating system. Gas heating comes in second, closely followed by biomass boilers.
This prevents many people from switching to a heat pump
Heat pump really future-proof?
Experts from the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) recommend coupling the heat pump to a photovoltaic system. This could reduce electricity costs and therefore expenses for heating and hot water preparation. This means that the financial burden on private households is significantly lower in the long term than if a new or renovated gas heating system were to continue to operate.
About the methodology
For the Energy Trend Monitor 2024, 1,000 German citizens were surveyed online. The survey was carried out on behalf of Stiebel Eltron GmbH & Co. KG and, according to the company, is representative of the population.
