Apple will present its new iPhones next Monday, and you can pre-order them shortly afterwards. But if you wait a little longer, you can save a lot of money, because experience shows that the devices will probably soon be available for significantly cheaper prices.
Anyone considering getting an iPhone 16 can probably pre-order it on the day of its premiere. But a few weeks or months of patience could pay off. The prices are not yet known, but when Apple unveils the new iPhone 16 models on September 6th, it is unlikely that they will cost less than the current devices. The cheapest 15er was launched a year ago for around 950 euros, the cheapest Pro for just under 1200 euros.
In the Apple Store itself, prices will remain stable at least until the successor appears. But according to Guenstiger.de, third-party online retailers have in the past attracted customers with discounts quite early on after the introduction of iPhones.
Price drop for the small normal car
The comparison portal analyzed the price development of Apple's current smartphones and found that the standard ones in particular were available for cheaper shortly after their market launch, while it took a little longer for the Pros. This was probably due to the greater demand for the top duo, while the two standard 15s reportedly needed boosting help.
According to the analysis, the prices for the small basic version fell by over 100 euros to 835 euros after just one month, which corresponds to a loss of at least twelve percent. After four months, the 20 percent mark was even broken and buyers of an iPhone 15 only had to pay 730 euros.
The price for the iPhone 15 Plus, which started at just under 1,100 euros, did not drop as sharply or as quickly as its little brother. In the first four weeks after the premiere it fell by eight percent. Another month later, the large standard device was offered for 975 euros, which corresponds to a decrease of eleven percent. Only after six months did the prices fall by over 20 percent to 872 euros.
Pro-Duo over 20 percent cheaper after seven months
The Pro duo was able to keep the free online price stable in the first month. After two months, the smaller version was offered at least ten percent cheaper, while the Max cost nine percent less.
If you waited a little longer, you could save a lot of money: from the seventh month onwards, the two Pro variants were 22 percent cheaper compared to their starting prices. For the iPhone 15 Pro you had to invest 935 instead of 1200 euros, the Pro Max only cost 1130 euros instead of 1450.
According to Guenstiger.de, the time around the so-called “Black Friday” on November 29th could be a good opportunity for an iPhone 16 bargain. However, this hardly applied to the newcomers last year, but their predecessors were sometimes available much cheaper. This may have something to do with the Christmas shopping day, which originally came from the USA. Above all, it was true then as it is now: When new iPhones come out, the prices of last year's models fall.
If you wait longer than twelve months, you will probably get an iPhone 16 even cheaper. But at some point the point is reached where it is no longer worth buying an older Apple smartphone. The technology remains top-notch for a long time, but after five or six years the devices no longer receive operating system updates. And you may no longer get some new functions sooner. You should always take that into account.
