Stiftung Warentest tests eleven current tablets and finds that the affordable mid-range is on the rise. In total, the testers' database now contains 23 good devices for up to 300 euros, the cheapest of which only costs around 160 euros.
The best tablets tested by Stiftung Warentest cost around 1000 euros or more. But the latest test shows that you don't have to spend more than 300 euros for a good device if you don't have particularly high demands. If performance and versatility are not important, you can get a well-rated tablet for around 160 euros.
Good computing power costs extra
The best device in the 300-euro class is the Xiaomi Mi Pad 6which online retailers offer from around 295 euros. The display and functions, which include computing and graphics performance, received good marks, and the battery was rated very good by the testers. Like the versatility, they also rated the handling as only satisfactory, but that is only due to the lack of a manual. Overall, the Xiaomi Pad 6 achieved a quality rating of 2.1.
Following with an overall score of 2.3 is the Honor Pad X9which is already sold for around 180 euros. The device is also very durable, the screen and handling are good. As well as its versatility, the product testers also rated its functionality as only satisfactory due to its low computing and graphics performance.
That too Lenovo Tab M11 TB330XU can only offer satisfactory functions with the same quality rating. However, it only lacks in terms of graphics performance, which is hardly important if you don't want to play complex games. Otherwise, it was rated well in all other categories – because it comes with a stylus, and also in terms of versatility.
Warentest tested the model with a mobile phone modem, which is currently not available. The WLAN version (M11 TB330FU) are available at prices starting from 185 euros.
Good display and great endurance for 160 euros
If a pen is not needed but mobile internet is important, you can take a look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ 5G which you can get for just under 230 euros. Its graphics performance is also poor, but it has a good display, is easy to handle and is very durable.
With a price of around 160 euros, the Amazon Fire HD 10 (2023) is currently the cheapest tablet that Stiftung Warentest has rated as good. Its computing and graphics performance is not great and because Amazon is doing its own thing, it is not particularly versatile. But its screen and handling are good and its battery life is excellent.
