First attempt fell through
The DFB Cup game in Saarbrücken will not take place until March
The canceled DFB Cup game between 1. FC Saarbrücken and Borussia Mönchengladbach will not be rescheduled until March 12th. This was announced by the German Football Association. The last quarterfinal game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m (ZDF, Sky and in the live ticker at ntv.de) will kick off in the Ludwigsparkstadion. Because the pitch was under water, the encounter between the cup terrors from the 3rd division and the Bundesliga club on Wednesday evening was canceled at short notice. There is no functioning drainage in the Ludwigspark in Saarbrücken.
“It's good that the DFB was able to quickly find a new date,” said Gladbach's sports director Roland Virkus: “Now it will be important that the space in the Ludwigsparkstadion allows the game to be played regularly on this match date.” Since many tickets have become unusable due to the wetness, Borussia will receive a new contingent of guests, the Bundesliga club announced. All previous ticket buyers will receive new tickets, the old ones will no longer be valid.
The draw for the semi-finals (April 2nd and 3rd) will take place this Saturday in the ZDF “Sportstudio” (from 11 p.m.) with a double draw (Saarbrücken/Mönchengladbach). If Saarbrücken were successful, they would have home advantage again. Also in the pot are Bayer Leverkusen, the last Bundesliga club, as well as the two second division teams Fortuna Düsseldorf and 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
The Saarlanders have had problems with their pitch for a long time, and the league game next Sunday against SpVgg Unterhaching will not take place as planned. In October, the third division game against Dynamo Dresden was canceled at half-time, also because the pitch was unplayable. Saarbrücken's mayor Uwe Conradt announced on Wednesday evening that he wanted to “solve the lawn problem”. When modernizing the stadium, savings were made on drainage.
