Ballermann singer Melanie Müller will have to answer to the Leipzig District Court from mid-June. The Leipzig public prosecutor's office brought charges against the former “Bachelor” candidate in May because she is said to have publicly shown the Hitler salute several times.
The investigators are referring to an incident on the night of September 18, 2022, which is said to have occurred in Leipzig. At an event, Müller is said to have repeatedly shown the Hitler salute from the stage towards the audience. The trial for using symbols of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations begins on June 18, the court announced on Thursday.
The 35-year-old had rejected the accusations and any proximity to “right-wing radicals or nationalist ideology”. The gesture in question was a move to incite the audience, she had stressed. In connection with the investigation, the police searched Melanie Müller's home in Leipzig last year. The singer is presumed innocent until a final conviction.
She herself commented on Instagram at the time and said: “I obviously have nothing to do with such ideas and statements (…), I clearly distance myself from them, criticize this shameful, indecent behavior of individual concert-goers and of course canceled the concert immediately because of these right-wing extremist statements.” Read more about it here.
There is also the accusation of drug possession. According to the indictment, the 35-year-old is said to have kept 0.69 grams of cocaine mixture and an ecstasy tablet in her apartment in Leipzig last August. In a letter to t-online she said: “I hereby state that neither of the handbags found belong to me and I therefore had no knowledge of their contents.” The court has scheduled another hearing on July 2nd, when a verdict could be reached.
