Braid is off: Viewers surprised by Joey Kelly's new look

His long blonde hair was his trademark for decades. But Joey Kelly separated from them. He presented his new hairstyle at the “Advent Festival”.
On Saturday evening, ARD showed the “Advent Festival of 100,000 Lights”. There Florian Silbereisen welcomed stars such as Semino Rossi, DJ Ötzi and Inka Bause. But some members of the Kelly family were also represented on the show. Musicians like Maite, Patricia and Angelo Kelly are welcome guests in the so-called festival shows.
In the 20th edition of the “Advent Festival” the “little Kellys” sang for a change: the daughters of Tanja and Joey Kelly. Lisann and Lillian performed the song “We were all children once” together with Markus Becker. However, it was her father who caught the attention of the audience.
Joey Kelly stood at the edge of the stage with his wife Tanja and chatted with Florian Silbereisen before his two girls performed. “We are very, very proud that our two daughters are with you today […] can take part,” said the 51-year-old. His wife added: “I'm always happy when my children get their wings. They then have to fly alone.”
While the two talked about their children, viewers online were surprised. “What happened to Joey Kelly?” asked one user on the X platform. “Oops! What does Joey look like?” another also wrote. “At first glance Joey looked like Angelo,” said another viewer.
The reason for the comments: Joey Kelly has a new hairstyle. His long hair was at least as famous as the Kelly Family's music. But the musician has separated from the long braid. Instead, the 51-year-old now sports a mohawk. “Joey has lost his hair, I just can't handle that…” commented one user on the new hairstyle. But why did the singer cut off his famous long braid?
Joey Kelly took part in the survival reality show “7 vs. Wild”. In the finale of the show, his colleague Joe Vogel cut off his hair after the musician asked him to do so. The reasons for this decision are unknown. But it is believed that his hair became so tangled during filming that he saw no other way out. For the first time in 40 years, Joe Kelly has a short hairstyle.
Filming took place in the summer. Since then, however, Joey Kelly has only appeared in public in a cap. For the “Advent Festival of 100,000 Lights” he took off his hat – and showed his new hairstyle for the first time on TV.
