It's been seven years since Gigi Buffon got engaged to Ilaria D'Amico. Now they stood together in front of the wedding altar.
In 2017, goalkeeping legend Gianluigi “Gigi” Buffon got engaged to his partner, presenter Ilaria D'Amico – seven years later they have now married. The ceremony took place over the weekend in the picturesque setting of San Pancrazio, Lucca. Photos show the bride and groom visibly happy.
Ilaria D'Amico chose an elegant white lace dress for her wedding. According to the Italian edition of Vanity Fair magazine, it comes from the Milanese designer Luisa Beccaria. She decorated her hair with a wreath of flowers. The groom got married in blue. His suit is said to come from the fashion house Giorgio Armani. He and his wife each shared a photo on Instagram showing them together on their wedding day in a romantic outdoor setting.
“Finally us,” they write about the picture in which they look into each other's eyes in love, and receive many congratulations. “Congratulations, Legend, and all the best to you and Ilaria” and “Wonderful! All the best to you!” says the comments.
According to Vanity Fair, Buffon dedicated loving words to his wife during the wedding reception: “Thanks to you, Ilaria, I met true love. I didn't believe that could exist.” The guests included prominent fellow footballers such as Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci, Andrea Barzagli and Luciano Spalletti, as the Italian newspaper “L'Unione Sarda” writes.
The 46-year-old said “yes” for the second time. From 2011 to 2014 he was married to Czech model Alena Seredova, with whom he has two sons – David Lee and Louis Thomas. D'Amico also brought a child into the marriage, her son Pietro from a previous relationship. She has had her son Leopoldo Mattia with Buffon since January 2016.
It is unclear why D'Amico and Buffon only married years after their engagement. Last year, the football star's career took a turn. He ended his time as a professional player and is now head of delegation for the Italian national team instead.
