Apple is launching a completely new Mac mini. It is even more powerful, but still significantly smaller than its predecessor.
The Mac mini was previously an extremely powerful little computer, but compared to other mini PCs it was quite large. That changes with the new generation, which can be ordered now. At 12.7 x 12.7 centimeters, it has an area that is more than 50 percent smaller than its predecessor. At the same time, it has become even stronger with Apple's new M4 or M4 Pro chip.
When it comes to equipping its new powerhouse, Apple is taking a different approach than its Windows competitors. The small computer does not have a single USB-A port, but only USB-C sockets. Two on the front support USB 3, three more on the back support either Thunderbolt 4 or Thunderbolt 5 (M2 Pro). There is only one Ethernet socket and an HDMI port. Equipped in this way, the Mac mini M4 supports up to two 6K displays and one 5K screen, and with the M4 Pro it can control up to three 6K displays.
Competitive prices
The small computer is delivered with macOS Sequoia 15.1, which allows Apple Intelligence to use the performance of the chips. This is already possible in Germany and the rest of the EU. However, you first have to change the language to US English. In addition, the range of functions of the AI functions is still limited. Among other things, you can have messages summarized or receive suggestions for a specific occasion in texts.
When it comes to prices, Apple is also giving its inexpensive Windows rivals a lot of competition. The cheapest Mac mini M4 with 16 gigabytes (GB) of RAM and 256 GB SSD costs around 700 euros. With a 512 GB SSD you pay just under 930 euros, if you also increase the RAM to 24 GB, 1160 euros. The Mac mini M4 Pro is only available in one version with a 512 GB SSD and 24 GB of RAM. You have to shell out around 1,650 euros for this.
