    Refund: Electricity customers should not miss this deadline

    Are you a customer of Primastrom, Voxenergy or Nowenergy? Then you should be quick.

    Anyone who gets their energy or gas from Primastrom, Voxenergy or Nowenergy has had a lot of trouble in recent months and years. According to customers and the Federal Association of Consumer Organizations (vzbv), unacceptable price increases, ignored cancellation letters and much more were common.

    Consumer advocates no longer wanted to tolerate this. They took legal action against the companies.

    The result is an out-of-court settlement between the Federal Association of Consumer Organizations and the providers. This enables affected customers to get money back for amounts they have paid too much and/or to get out of their contracts that have actually been canceled a long time ago more quickly.

    However, those affected who want to benefit from the out-of-court settlement must take action. You must contact your provider by the end of December 2024.

    “The companies came to the attention of the consumer advice centers through massive telephone campaigns,” says Patrick Langer from the vzbv’s class action team. Customers who concluded their electricity or gas contract over the telephone should go to the consumer advice center website (www.consumerzentrale.de/verfahren/primaholding) go. After answering a few questions, you will receive information about what you can demand from your provider based on the comparison. They also receive suggestions for action from consumer advocates. Only then should injured parties assert their claims.

    Victims who concluded their contract online, for example, can also get money back. However, these customers must contact the consumer advice center by email (sammel [email protected]). Those affected should then describe their own case in the email. The consumer advocates will then report back with appropriate recommendations for action.

    Important: Damaged parties must send an email to their energy provider (Primastrom, Voxenergy or Nowenergy) by December 31, 2024. Here you must refer to the out-of-court settlement between vzbv and the corresponding company. “Consumers should then receive a confirmation of receipt directly,” says Langer. Relevant agreements are recorded in the settlement.

    Anyone who misses the deadline or is afraid to make the effort should remember that thanks to the settlement, a refund of several thousand euros is possible. Ultimately, the unacceptable price increases were up to 80 percent. And the injured parties are now entitled to this overpaid amount.
