The granddaughter of the US President has become a mother. She gave birth to her child in Los Angeles while devastating fires raged around her.
Good news in the midst of the Los Angeles fire disaster: Outgoing US President Joe Biden's granddaughter, Naomi Biden, has given birth to a child, making her 82-year-old grandfather a great-grandfather. Biden himself announced this on the sidelines of an appointment in the West Coast metropolis, as reporters present reported. Biden first spoke of a girl weighing ten pounds (4.5 kilograms) and then corrected himself to “a little boy.”
The US President is currently in California with his wife Jill Biden. An appointment originally planned for the previous day had to be postponed due to the severe forest fires in the region. Biden mentioned the birth during a briefing with representatives from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The Bidens had previously visited granddaughter Naomi in the hospital, which is outside the evacuation zone.
Naomi Biden is the eldest daughter of Hunter Biden, the president's son from his first marriage. Hunter Biden has a total of five children and was most recently in the spotlight after his powerful father pardoned him – he was on trial for tax crimes and illegal gun possession. The pardon caused considerable criticism.
The Biden family has experienced severe blows of fate in the past. In 1972, Joe Biden lost his first wife Neilia and their daughter Naomi in a car accident; his sons Beau and Hunter survived. Biden's second wife Jill later took over the role of mother to the two boys. Beau Biden died in 2015 at the age of 46 as a result of a brain tumor. Joe and Jill Biden also have a daughter named Ashley.
