Sports Court published judgment on Medalen-Zoff
The medal-zoff between the USA and Romania has ended: The International Sports Court CAS now publishes the reasoning of the judgment to defend itself against criticism from the USA. The decision was “crystal clear”, it is about a few seconds.
The International Sports Court of CAS published the reason in the dispute over the Olympic bronze medal in gymnastics and defended itself against criticism from the United States. Jordan Chiles therefore no longer has a chance to the podium in the floor gymnastics, which she had cheered in Paris with her teammate Simone Biles. The CAS decided that the protest of the US gymnastics association was late and that bronze is therefore entitled to the Romanian Ana Barbosu. “The panel would like to point out that it is its task to judge on the basis of the laws and evidence and both are crystal clear in this case,” it said.
In the floor decision on August 5, the US team had appealed against the assessment of Chiles. After examining the video recordings, the jury decided to recognize an element and correct the difficulty value upwards. Chiles climbed in third place. The decision was made only after the placements were announced. At that time, the Romanian Ana Barbosu had already celebrated her third place with the state flag over the shoulder in the hall.
US gymnastics association submitted video material
The Romanian association then appealed to the CAS on the grounds that the US team had applied for the correction after one minute and four seconds instead of one minute after the evaluation was announced. The CAS joined this and declared the correction upwards.
Most recently, the US gymnastics association had submitted new video material, which was according to the first protest after 47 seconds, a second after 55 seconds. According to the association, the CAS must no longer deal with evidence submitted subsequently. The US association had kept open to bringing the case in front of the Swiss Federal Supreme Court.
