Owners of gas heaters are currently particularly challenged. Not only do they have to take care of a replacement as soon as possible. Now she has another duty to bear.
Gas heating systems may only be operated until 2045. From then on fossil fuels will be banned. And since the beginning of the year, the installation of new gas heaters has only been possible under strict conditions and in exceptional cases.
Now there is another obligation for owners of gas heaters: the heating test. The renewed Building Energy Act (GEG), also known as the Heating Act, requires testing for older heating systems. However, only for buildings that have six or more residential units. And only for water-based heaters that were installed after September 30, 2009.
This heating check must then be carried out a maximum of 15 years later, i.e. by September 30, 2025. If the heating was installed on October 1, 2009 or after, you can have the heating checked accordingly later.
But the heating inspection requirement is not the only thing that owners of gas heating systems have to pay attention to. Another requirement is the requirement for hydraulic balancing in larger residential buildings with gas central heating. Exception: The heating replacement is imminent.
This obligation applies to homeowners
Homeowners or owners of smaller properties also need to have their heating checked and, if necessary, optimized. Until September 15, 2024. This is what the “Ordinance to Secure the Energy Supply on Medium-Term Effective Measures” (EnSimiMaV) provides for gas-powered heating and hot water systems.
During the heating check, the heat generation and transfer, the distribution of heat and hot water in the respective rooms and the hot water preparation are checked, among other things. All of these areas should be as efficient as possible. Otherwise there is a need to catch up.
However, those affected should not act at the last minute. Appointments with the district chimney sweeps or specialist companies are usually rare.
