FC Bayern and RB agree on Eberl transfer fee

FC Bayern has been trying to secure the services of Max Eberl for months. The deal is apparently nearing completion: the German record champions and RB Leipzig have reportedly agreed on a transfer fee. And yet the Munich team still have to be patient.

The appointment of Max Eberl as the new sporting director of FC Bayern Munich is getting closer. According to media reports on Tuesday, the German record champions have agreed on a transfer fee with Eberl's employer RB Leipzig. Eberl, a long-time Gladbach player and manager released by Leipzig, has long been considered FC Bayern's preferred candidate.

Both clubs agree on key points, with Leipzig booking 4.5 million euros. However, the deal has not yet been signed. “Bild” and the TV channel Sky also believe that the negotiations between the clubs have reached their goal.

    Important personnel for Munich's restructuring

By signing Eberl, the Munich team has resolved an important personnel issue in the restructuring of its management. The restructuring became necessary after the club parted ways with CEO Oliver Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić at the end of May last year. Kahn's position was taken over by long-time finance director Jan-Christian Dreesen, while Salihamidžić's position initially remained vacant.

The signing of Eberl had been on the cards for a long time. Honorary President Uli Hoeneß had long had a high opinion of him. Last year, Hoeneß also stressed that “for the next six to twelve months we have the personnel that will shape the future.” Christoph Freund, who was signed from RB Salzburg in September, will act as Munich's sporting director.

Leipzig parted ways with Eberl at the end of September, shortly before the top match against FC Bayern. The reason was that, from the RB bosses' point of view, Eberl was not committed to Leipzig. Eberl would have to be appointed as FC Bayern's new sporting director by the supervisory board. The committee will meet again at the end of February. Only then can the transfer be officially completed.
