Stiftung Warentest tests 32 smartphones, including the latest models from Samsung and Google. The number 1 remains unchanged, but there is a new runner-up and many inexpensive test candidates do well, including a mobile phone that only costs around 200 euros.
Until recently, anyone who looked for results on current smartphones at Stiftung Warentest often did not find what they were looking for, as many new releases from the past few months had not yet been tested. This was the case with the latest Galaxy S24 series and other Samsung devices, but also with Google's Pixel 8 duo and phones from Xiaomi, Motorola, Sony, OnePlus, Nothing and Telekom. The foundation has now made up for this by testing 32 smartphones, many of which performed well, including particularly cheap devices starting at around 200 euros.
Apple and Samsung in the lead
The first place remains unchanged for the iPhone 15 Pro Maxwhich was the only test candidate to achieve a very good quality rating (1.5). The cameras, display, handling and stability of the Apple flagship are top-notch. The testers found the endurance as good as the basic functions, which include voice quality, network sensitivity, WLAN, computing power and location.
The other iPhone 15 devices follow closely behind with an overall score of 1.6, although the cameras make a small difference. Only the 15 Pro they are very good, iPhone15 and 15+ were rated well here.
Apple's trio must settle for second place with the newly tested Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Basic functions and stability are good, in all other categories the device was rated very good. The same overall rating was achieved last year by the Galaxy S23 Ultra and that GalaxyS23+which, however, have slightly weaker cameras.
Good devices with good cameras from around 250 euros
The Galaxy S24+ received the quality rating of 1.7 and now shares the GalaxyS23 third place. This was followed by a whole series of smartphones with an overall rating of 1.8. Among them is the newly tested OnePlus 12whose cameras, display and mileage were rated very highly. It only missed a better ranking due to satisfactory handling.
Newcomers Google Pixel 8 Pro has to settle for a quality rating of 1.9, mainly because of its merely satisfactory endurance. The testers found its cameras and display very good, and everything else good. Samsung Galaxy S24 only received a score of 1.9 overall due to poor mileage. His camera was not rated very well, but narrowly missed it (1.6).
The third newcomer with a quality rating of 1.9 is the Sony Xperia 5 V. Due to a lower network sensitivity and relatively inaccurate positioning, its handling was only satisfactory. The cameras and stability of the device are good, the display, battery performance and handling are very good.
The cheapest overall well-rated new smartphone (2.3) is the Samsung Galaxy A25which can be found online from around 205 euros. It has a very good screen, a good battery and is easy to handle. However, the cameras and stability are only satisfactory. For around 50 euros more you get the GalaxyA35which performed well in every category.
