Bestselling author Sophie Kinsella makes her cancer diagnosis public

    -

The British writer shared personal news with her fans: Sophie Kinsella was found to have a malignant brain tumor.

She entertains millions of readers worldwide with her books. Sophie Kinsella's romantic comedies such as the “Shopaholic” novels, which were also made into films in Hollywood, regularly conquer the bestseller lists. Now the 54-year-old is addressing her fans with very serious news: she is suffering from cancer.

Sophie Kinsella told her approximately 100,000 Instagram followers on Wednesday that she received the diagnosis at the end of 2022, but first had to find the strength to share it with the public. The author was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a form of aggressive brain tumor.

    “Our new normal”

She didn't make her illness public earlier “because I wanted to make sure that my children were able to hear and process the news in private and get used to our 'new normal,'” the Brit wrote alongside a photo from yourself.

She has now had a successful operation and is undergoing radiation and chemotherapy, which is still ongoing. “At the moment everything is stable and I generally feel very good, although I get very tired and my memory is even worse than before,” said Sophie Kinsella.

The 54-year-old is grateful to her family and close friends, who have been a great source of support, as well as to her doctors and nurses. She also thanked her readers for their support and concluded by addressing others affected: “I send love and best wishes to everyone who is suffering from any form of cancer, and also to those who support them.” Receiving such a serious diagnosis can feel very lonely and scary, and the care of others means more than words can say.
