<p class="text-18 leading-17">Federal police officer Thorsten Falke goes to the monastery. In the “Crime scene: silence” This Sunday he is looking for peace and distraction because the death of his colleague Julia Grosz haunts him into his dreams. The duo had just gotten closer to each other in a tender way when Grosz (Franziska Weisz) was stabbed in an alley out of nowhere. Falke (Wotan Wilke Möhring) sees this scene again and again in his nightmares.</p>

<p class="text-18 leading-17">To process them, he picks apples in a monastery in the Eifel in his blue uniform, goes to pray and lives with retreat participant Daniel (Florian Lukas) in a sparse two-bed room in the monastery complex. But then the pastor burns to death in a fire in his caravan in the monastery courtyard. Falke throws his leather jacket back on and investigates. The new one “Crime scene”-Episode is about child abuse in the church and deals with this big and shocking topic absolutely straight and straightforward.</p>

<p class="text-18 leading-17">In the first scene of the North German crime thriller, a curly-haired boy has to watch helplessly as his drunk father burns to death in a fire because of a cigarette butt. Even the first shots get on your nerves and it stays that way for the next 90 minutes. Because the falcon”Crime scene” goes where it hurts.</p>

<p class="text-18 leading-17">He doesn't do this by showing the horror. But by showing people's reactions to it. These are often only minimal changes to the facial features. The camera focuses on it and just lets it work. This is great cinema – also thanks to the convincing acting team of Florian Lukas, Wotan Wilke Möhring and Lena Lauzemis.</p>

<p class="text-18 leading-17">Director Lars Kraume uses this stylistic device particularly intensively when Falke evaluates the slides, cassettes and photo negatives containing child pornographic content found in the priest's hidden room. “Everything full of children. He probably wasn't a good person after all, the priest”he replies to the initially responsible investigator, Eve Pötter (Lena Lauzemis). Slide after slide, the visibly shaken, increasingly shaken and disgusted Falcon fights his way through the evidence – until he thinks he recognizes his new friend Daniel in one of the photos.</p>

Falke and Pötter reveal that the priest was far from being a lone perpetrator. And that the silence of many made the extent of the abuse possible. But the old cases are out of date. When the police suddenly find out that the latest case of abuse was just a few days ago, the investigation gets a new impetus.</p>

<p class="text-18 leading-17">“Crime scene: silence” echoes, busy. It shows from different perspectives what abuse can do to victims, relatives, accomplices and perpetrators. The Sunday crime thriller remains free of clichés, it doesn't exaggerate things and shows what is happening. The church as an institution is not being addressed, Möhring told NDR. “Rather, we address their worst excesses, the abuse of power, the system of cover-ups and concealments, and the fatal vow of silence that still stands above the law today.”</p>

<p class="text-18 leading-17">Basis for the latest Falke”Crime scene” was a current and very similar case from Saarland, as screenwriter Stefan Dähnert told NDR. It was intentional that Falke, of all people, was investigating the case. “There is probably no other ARD investigative commissioner who would care less about matters of faith than Falke. That was crucial.”</p>
