New contract or lightning departure
PSG is massively increasing pressure on superstar Mbappé
France’s series champions Paris Saint-Germain definitely do not want to let Kylian Mbappé leave without a transfer fee. The superstar’s contract with the capital club expires in 2024. An announcement by the superstar in the media had previously caused quite a stir.
Those responsible at Paris St. Germain are increasing the pressure on superstar Kylian Mbappé, who is willing to leave. The French runner-up “must sign a new contract” if he wants to continue playing for PSG next season, said Paris President Nasser Al-Khelaifi. Mbappé’s contract expires in the summer of 2024, then he could leave on a free transfer. However, this is not an option for those responsible for PSG. “We can’t let one of the best players in the world go for nothing.”
In June, Mbappé told the AFP news agency that he had never considered a unilateral option to extend his contract. Accordingly, Mbappé informed club officials on July 15, 2022 that he would not make use of this option next summer. “I was very shocked when I found out that he planned to leave on a free transfer,” said Al-Khelaïfi. PSG is forced to consider selling its exceptional player in the summer. Otherwise the club would not be able to generate a transfer fee. Real Madrid has been considered a potential buyer for some time.
Meanwhile, PSG has introduced Luis Enrique as its new coach. He will succeed Christophe Galtier. “Luis Enrique is one of the best coaches in the world. It’s great that he is joining us,” said Al-Khelaïfi. The former Spanish national football coach was confident about his new job. “I have no doubt that we will have a great team.” However, this is currently in the midst of upheaval. Two legends, Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos, have left the club. The future of superstars Neymar and Mbappé (see above) is unclear.
