Hot water consumption varies significantly in German cities and federal states. Who prefers to use warm water and who is particularly economical?
Washing your hands, showering, bathing or brushing your teeth – when it comes to personal hygiene, most people prefer to use warm water. However, heating water requires a lot of energy. Not everyone wants or can afford this additional financial burden – and therefore prefers to resort to saving measures such as shorter shower times.
t-online wanted to know which federal state pays particular attention to hot water consumption or generally uses less. The energy service provider Techem has provided an overview.
Hot water consumption is lowest in relation to the heated living space in Hamm. It is 0.180 cubic meters per square meter per year. Schwerin and Saarbrücken share second place among the most economical cities. Magdeburg follows behind with 0.184 cubic meters per square meter.
There is a comparatively high consumption per square meter in Mannheim. But warm water is also popular in Aachen and Frankfurt am Main.
The data also shows differences in a nationwide comparison. Hot water consumption is lowest in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. On average, only 0.183 cubic meters per square meter are used here. Saarland follows closely behind. Saxony-Anhalt ranks third among the most economical households when it comes to hot water.
Hot water consumption per square meter is less economical in Brandenburg – it is almost twice as high as in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. But warm water is also popular in Lower Saxony and Baden-Württemberg.
