Liverpool starts life after Klopp with a win and a Salah record

Liverpool FC has successfully arrived in the post-Klopp era: The Reds struggled against Ipswich in front of pop superstar Ed Sheeran, but celebrated a deserved victory in the end. Striker Mo Salah made himself a record man.

Team manager Arne Slot celebrated a successful debut as Jürgen Klopp's successor at Liverpool FC. At the start of the Premier League, the Reds deservedly won 2-0 (0-0) at newly promoted Ipswich Town on Saturday despite slight teething problems. The Dutchman Slot, who came from Feyenoord Rotterdam, inherited club icon Klopp after the German left the club after nine years.

Diogo Jota (60th) and star striker Mohamed Salah (65th) gave their new coach the longed-for victory with their goals. Slot's home premiere follows on Sunday in a week against Brentford FC, the first big highlight is the cracking duel against arch-rivals Manchester United on September 1st.

In Ipswich, Slot relied on Jota at the forefront, Darwin Nunez and European Championship star Cody Gakpo initially sat on the bench. The first half of the slot era got off to a slow start before the eyes of musician and Ipswich noble fan Ed Sheeran, who has recently also become an investor in the newcomer. The underdog even seemed more dangerous. Shortly before the break, Trent Alexander-Arnold (45th) had the first half chance, but chased the ball over.

The Reds only became really dangerous in the second half. First, an unmarked Jota (59') headed over from close range, and a minute later the Portuguese scored coldly after an assist from Salah. The Egyptian increased after a remarkable one-two with Dominik Szoboszlai.

Liverpool's star striker Salah also became the sole Premier League record holder in his 350th game for the Reds: the Egyptian scored for the ninth time on the first matchday of a season. He has now achieved this for the seventh time in eight years in the Premier League. Only last year in the opening draw against Chelsea FC did Salah not start the new season with a goal. Previously, the Liverpool FC attacker had to share the record with Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard. All three legends can no longer counterattack; they have long since ended their brilliant careers.

Runner-up Arsenal London starts against Wolverhampton Wanderers (4 p.m. / live stream on RTL+), series champions Manchester City have to go to Chelsea on Sunday.
