Stiftung Warentest tested 21 current soundbars and soundplates, of which only one device performed very well for almost 2000 euros. But a number of external TV speakers receive good overall marks. The cheapest of these costs 250 euros, the cheapest device with good sound costs 350 euros.
The easiest way to boost the thin sound of most TVs is to use soundbars that stand or hang in front of them. Slightly rarer but equally good alternatives can be sound plates on which you place the TV.
Stiftung Warentest listened closely to 21 current speakers for home cinema with prices between 120 and 2000 euros. The examiners note: Expensive does not mean good. Some high-priced models don't sound convincing or have weaknesses in handling. On the other hand, some particularly inexpensive devices perform well.
Just a device very good
The test winner is this Soundplate Nubert nuPro XS-8500 RCwhich was the only examinee to achieve a quality rating of very good (1.4). Sound and power consumption are great, handling is good. With an average online price of 1,970 euros, the German device is one of the most expensive external TV speakers tested.
You have to pay more than 2000 euros for it Devialet Dione leaf over. The examiners also found her tone very good. However, the expensive soundbar with satisfactory handling and only sufficient power consumption has ruined its place at the top. Overall, it was enough for an overall grade of 2.1 and 5th place.
She was able to take second place LG DS95TR secure, which has a subwoofer and two satellite speakers for surround sound. It costs around 1,300 euros and received a quality rating of 1.8 with good reviews in all three categories.
Good sound from 350 euros
With a slightly weaker, but also good sound, the Samsung HW-Q935GD/ZG third place with an overall grade of 2.1. It also has a subwoofer and two additional speakers, but is significantly cheaper at around 860 euros.
The Samsung HW-Q810GD/ZG is even cheaper at 565 euros, but also has three good partial grades and at least achieved a quality rating of 2.0. However, it is delivered without satellite boxes.
The cheapest good soundbar is this Denon DHT-S218 (2.5), which costs around 250 euros. However, without a subwoofer, it only delivers satisfactory sound. Its handling is good and its power consumption is very good.
The cheapest device with good sound is the LG DS70TYwhich is available for around 350 euros. Stiftung Warentest also rated handling and power consumption as good and very good.
