A new survey reveals Germans' most popular hardware stores – and the result is surprising. A discount hardware store secures first place in the image ranking.
When it comes to hardware stores, most people are rather pragmatic. Often you go to the market that is nearby or the one that has the product you want at the best price. But there are still companies that are ahead and others that are less popular with customers.
A current survey conducted by the market research company Splendid Research shows which hardware stores have the best image among Germans. And the results are quite surprising.
The discount hardware store B1, which is a subsidiary of Toom, took first place. For those surveyed, the main deciding factor was the good price-performance ratio, as Splendid Research market researcher Johannes Harms explains. B1 has “built a strong image,” as the “Lebensmittel Zeitung” quotes Harms.
The same applies to number three in the ranking, the special price for hardware stores. As the name suggests, the good price-performance ratio is also convincing here. This means that two places in the top three go to relatively unknown hardware stores. Obi made it to second place in the image ranking.
The rankings of B1 and Sonderpreis Baumarkt are even more remarkable if you look at the ranking of the best-known DIY stores, which Splendid Research also compiled. Here Obi comes in first, followed by Bauhaus and Hornbach. The two discount hardware stores didn't make it into the top ten, but they still impress in the image ranking.
In the overall ranking, which summarizes all points collected, Obi was the most convincing among those surveyed. This is probably also because Obi is the best known and operates almost 350 branches throughout Germany. Bauhaus and Hornbach follow Obi in second and third place.
