US basketball national coach Steve Kerr doesn't keep his political opinions to himself. Michael Jordan's former teammate has a clear favorite in the presidential election campaign. The 58-year-old at least has a very special gesture for the former president.

After winning the gold medal with the USA at the Olympics in Paris, national basketball coach Steve Kerr has clearly positioned himself against presidential candidate Donald Trump. “I will help every day to ensure that people go out and elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz as the next president and vice president of the United States on November 5th,” Kerr said in a speech at the US Democratic National Convention in Chicago, adding: “After the latest results and in the words of the great Stephen Curry, we can say to Donald Trump: Goodnight!”

The 58-year-old Kerr alluded to a gesture from Curry that the Golden State Warriors superstar last showed in the Olympic final in Paris. With his successful three-point throws, Curry decided the final against France (98:87) for the Americans and then put his head on his folded hands to tell the fans: That's it, you can go to sleep now. Kerr, who once became a multiple NBA champion alongside Michael Jordan, now imitated the gesture on the big stage.

    Barack Obama is absolutely thrilled

Think about what our team of twelve Americans accomplished in Paris. Rivalries were put aside to represent our country. Now imagine what we could achieve if all 330 million played on the same team,” said Kerr: “Not as Democrats or Republicans, but as Americans.” He called on his home country for unity and also praised Harris' qualities us Walz: “It is what our country needs. Leadership, real leadership. Not the kind that wants to divide us.”

Former US President Barack Obama, among others, also shared the video of Kerr's speech on his X channel and thanked him for the support. “Thank you for bringing home gold for Team USA – and for your leadership at a crucial moment for our country,” Obama wrote.
