With this book you get everything out of the Apple Watch

    -

If you first create an Apple Watch or have not known what you can do, you will find the perfect guide in “Apple Watch – just everything”. The book does not leave any details from the first commissioning to tips and tricks, but it always remains clear and easy to understand.

Hard to believe, but the Apple Watch has been around for around ten years. In May 2015, NTV.de tested the first generation. The clock has retained its basic design, but otherwise a lot has happened. The Apple Watch has not only become technically better, it has also received numerous new functions. Most recently, the latest operating system Watchos 11 was added to the detection of sleep apnea, or the vital sign app.

Anyone who creates an Apple Watch for the first time is often overwhelmed by the many options. But even experienced users may not know all the functions and therefore do not get everything out of the practical computer on the wrist. You can recommend a new advisor from Christian Immler, which has been published by Markt + Technik: “Apple Watch – just can do anything”.

    Great reference work

The book has a total of 320 pages. On the one hand, this is because the device actually offers many options. Immler describes everything down to the smallest detail. You don't have to read everything if you have had an Apple Watch for a long time. Then the book is primarily a reference work to find out how something works that you have not used or forgotten if necessary.

There is not only the usual keyword register. The book is divided into eight chapters, which can be found quickly through color beams. If you are already familiar with, you can skip the first two chapters. The first gives only a brief overview of the various available models and how to get an update to the latest Watchos 11 operating system if necessary.

    Perfect for beginners

The second chapter initially helps to set up the Apple Watch with step-by-step instructions. Then IMMLER explains how to use the clock using the side button, digital crown, action button (Apple Watch Ultra) and touchscreen. It also shows how to select a dial, which complications can be added/replaced and what information you display. Finally, the author leads from the most important attitudes and explains the functions of the control center.

Chapter 2 could already be interesting for advanced users. Because this is about “everyday life with the Apple Watch”. Of course, this includes the use of the voice assistant Siri, how to deal with calendars or how to enter text on the watch. In the second chapter, however, the smart stack is also explained, which can be more personalized with Watchos 11. And maybe professionals must also be reminded of how practical the memory app can be.

    Lots of pictures

In the entire book, all steps are illustrated in detail with screenshots, which makes it really easy to follow them on their own Apple Watch – and on the iPhone. Because some things are set directly on the clock, but many functions are regulated with the corresponding app on your smartphone.

You can put it in again if you know how to communicate perfectly with the watch. That's why it is in Chapter 4. If you read it through it, you can write messages and emails on the clock or make calls with it. Or you know that you prefer to do it on the iPhone and only read notifications about it on the watch. Communication also includes discussions using the translator app or the rarely used Walkie-Talkie function.

Apple Watch as a fitness tracker

Many people use the Apple Watch as a fitness tracker. Accordingly, Apple has massively expanded the functions here over the years. You can also see this in the book, where the corresponding chapter takes up a lot of space.

It starts with the famous rings of the activity app. You close it by burning a certain amount of calories within 24 hours, moving intensively long enough or standing sufficiently often. You can achieve targeted goals or define your own. As a reward, you get awards, and at the end of the day, the week, the month there is an evaluation.

For higher demands, the training app is there, which records specific sports from jogging to triathlon. The Apple Watch automatically recognizes several of them, others have to be started manually. The book explains all settings and evaluations.

    Everything for health

Health is part of sport and fitness. In this area, the Apple Watch has gained a lot of functions that observe, evaluate and warn values if necessary. It is particularly interesting here the heart rate, which is measured permanently, but also the blood oxygen. To do this, you can make an EKG with the watch or create a cycle protocol, and also track sleep with a combination of different measurements.

All of this can be quite confusing for beginners. With the simple and extensively illustrated instructions in the book, it is a child's play to use the Apple Watch on your own needs for sports, fitness and health.

    Apps, apps, apps

The same applies to the countless apps that are now available for watchos, of course also from NTV. Immler is mainly limited to the pre-installed apps such as cards for navigation and route planning, the music app, Wallet & Apple Pay or the new tidal app. He does this in turn so detailed that even old hands can learn one or the other trick.

Third-party apps are not completely left out. The seventh chapter not only explains how to install them, but also describe a few particularly useful applications. These include the Comoot, DB Navigator or Google Maps cycling and hiking app.

    Useful tips and tricks

In the last chapter, the author finally mentions a few tips and tricks. If you have been wearing an Apple Watch for a long time, you will probably flip it through quickly, because then you will surely already know how to make your memoji a dial. Then, however, some settings could be interesting “to which you don't get so quickly and that some long -time users have not yet discovered,” as Immler writes.

For example, who knows what the “wind chime” does or how to use the Apple Watch without the hand where it is not worn? Simmler also explains how to use the extremely practical, but far too rarely used short commands and create yourself. At the very end, it's about how to use the SOS functions of the watch in an emergency.

    Conclusion

“Apple Watch – just can do everything” makes it easy to deal with the watch. The additional investment of almost 20 euros pays off, because Apple also provides an online manual, but it is not as extensive and clear as the book. Therefore, it can also be interesting for old hands who want to go into detail.
