Marius Borg Høiby dominates the royal news. The 27-year-old is from a relationship with Morten Borg. But who is the man who once turned Mette-Marit's head?
“Last weekend something happened that should never have happened,” said Marius Borg Høiby in a statement on Wednesday. With these words, the 27-year-old breaks his silence. The son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit was arrested on August 4 after he attacked his girlfriend. “I committed assault and destroyed objects in an apartment while I was intoxicated with alcohol and cocaine after an argument.”
In the statement that his lawyer Øyvind Bratlien sent to the Norwegian broadcaster NRK, Marius Borg Høiby also said: “I have several mental illnesses that have caused me to have and still have problems during my childhood and as an adult.” The Norwegian Crown Princess's son comes from her previous relationship and is not officially a member of the royal family.
Before Mette-Marit Høiby fell in love with Prince Haakon at a music festival in 1999, she was in a relationship with Morten Borg, who was four years older than her. In January 1997 they became parents of a boy. However, shortly after Marius was born, the two separated, but remained together for their son. According to the magazine “Bunte”, Marius lived alternately at Skaugum Manor, the heir to the throne's residence, and in his father's apartment until he was 18.
Morten Borg is said to still have a close relationship with Marius. Two years ago, Nora Haukland, the ex-girlfriend of the 27-year-old son, published the photo below. She captioned it briefly: “Father and son.” But who is the man with whom Mette-Marit had her first child? Morten Borg is now 54 years old and has worked in the financial sector since the 1990s. He earned his master's degree in economics and has been a certified financial analyst since 2005.
When Mette-Marit fell in love with the Norwegian prince, the media pounced on the scandalous stories from her past. Morten Borg was suddenly in the spotlight too. The fact that Mette-Marit brought an illegitimate child into her relationship with the crown prince caused an outcry in the country. Nevertheless, the couple tied the knot in August 2001.
Morten Borg also married after his relationship with Mette-Marit. In 2003, the businessman met the businesswoman Celine Maktabi. They became a couple and tied the knot a year later. Shortly after, their son Lucas was born. Like Morten Borg, the boy was also Celine Maktabi's second child.
She also brought a boy into the relationship. Emanuel is the same age as Marius. In an interview, the businesswoman once said: “I always say: 'I have three sons.' I don't make any distinctions. I see myself as Marius' other mother. For me, he is like any other child and I treat him like my other two boys. We all have pillow fights in bed together and even go skateboarding.”
In 2019, Morten Borg and Celine Maktabi separated after 15 years of marriage. It is not known whether the businessman is now in a new relationship. The 56-year-old has not yet commented on his son's attack. Mette-Marit of Norway is also keeping quiet.
