Real disappointed against Mallorca
The hype surrounding Mbappé will initially be dampened at the start of the league
The hype surrounding superstar Kylian Mbappé is gigantic, but at the start of the league it receives a setback: the French striker only manages a draw with his new club Real Madrid in Mallorca.
The favored Champions League winner Real Madrid gave up a victory on Kylian Mbappé's league debut in Spain. The Royals, with the French superstar in the starting line-up, only drew 1-1 (1-0) from RCD Mallorca after a 1-0 lead and dropped two points on the first matchday.
Rodrygo (13th minute) initially gave the defending champions, who face Real Valladolid in their first home game next Sunday, an early lead. However, Vedat Muriqi (53') equalized. In stoppage time, Ferland Mendy was shown a red card at Real after a hard foul (90+7).
Overall, Madrid did not act consistently enough on offense. Mbappé missed even the best chances and failed to score. At half-time, Real's star midfielder Jude Bellingham asked his noble offensive team to “finish the attacks” and then start moving backwards – even if that was difficult. Coach Carlo Ancelotti was dissatisfied with his team's performance: “The defense wasn't good. It was difficult for us to win the ball and press after losing the ball,” complained the Italian. “Mallorca played a great game and were better than us.”
After leaving Paris Saint-Germain after the past season, he celebrated a dream debut at Real. Madrid won the European Super Cup against Atalanta Bergamo last Wednesday. Mbappé scored his first goal for the club.
The offensive star came from PSG on a free transfer and signed a contract until 2029. Madrilenian fans hope for a title-rich future with the 2018 world champion.
