The Galaxy Ring is the little star of the devices that Samsung is unveiling in Paris because it is something completely new in the company's portfolio. The South Korean company's latest folding and clamshell smartphones, earphones and smartwatches are also exciting. And of course, AI plays a big role.
Go big or go home: Samsung presented a whole series of new devices in Paris. Almost all of them are further developments, such as the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6. For the first time, the South Koreans are also presenting a smart ring that measures fitness and health data. Two of the company's new smartwatches can do the same, and Samsung's latest generation of earphones surprises with a new design.
New ring, super robust Galaxy Watch Ultra
Among other things, the Galaxy Ring measures your pulse and automatically recognizes different workouts. It can also track sleep and warn wearers of irregularities or inactivity.
Other rings can do this, but according to the manufacturer, the Galaxy Ring is designed to deliver particularly precise data, which is also processed more securely in Samsung Health than with other providers. With the new wearable, the company also wants to make its ecosystem even more attractive in order to retain customers in the long term.
This also applies to the new Galaxy Watch 7, which can also be used as a health and fitness tracker. Among other things, it has a more powerful processor than its predecessor. Extreme athletes and adventurers should enjoy the Galaxy Watch Ultra, which has a titanium case, is waterproof up to 10 atmospheres and works at altitudes between 500 meters below and 9,000 meters above sea level.
Stick earphones, lighter butterflies
Samsung's new earphones have a new stick design, reminiscent of Apple's Airpods. The Galaxy Buds 3 are designed to be more comfortable, but still secure. Like their big competitors, they are now controlled by pressing and swiping the extensions.
Sound and active noise cancellation (ANC) are said to be better than the already very good predecessors. The Galaxy Buds 3 Pro take things up a notch with an additional tweeter, adaptive ANC adjustment, siren and voice recognition. Combined with a Galaxy smartphone, you can also hear real-time translations with the new buds.
The most important devices at Samsung's summer Unpacked event were the new folding and clamshell smartphones. With a new, flat frame, they are even lighter than the previous generations. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 weighs just 187 grams and the Galaxy Z Fold just 239 grams. They are also said to be more robust and score points with a more powerful processor and improved cameras.
AI features from Samsung or Google
The chip is also optimized for AI applications, which Samsung focused on during the presentation, as it did with its Galaxy S24 series. Most of the functions are therefore not really new, but the smartphones do have special talents. Since they have two screens, it is possible to show real-time translations to conversation partners.
Like all of Samsung's AI functions, this feature takes place “on board” in the chip, so it does not require an internet connection. The South Koreans are also cooperating with Google's cloud AI Gemini, which has its own app on the devices. With it, users can, among other things, convert selfies or portrait shots, for example in a cartoon or watercolor style. There are also a number of other photo and video functions, including an auto zoom, where people or sights are fitted into the image with the help of AI.
