    After worries about tennis star
    Alexander Zverev returns impressively

Alexander Zverev confidently moves into the round of 16 of the Cincinnati Open on the way to the US Open. The 27-year-old clearly beats the Russian Karen Khachanow. He seems to have overcome the health problems that had recently plagued him.

Alexander Zverev was in stronger form again in his preparation for the US Open. Germany's best tennis player started the ATP Masters in Cincinnati with an easy 6:3, 6:2 against the Russian Karen Chatschanow and is in the round of 16. In the first round of the hard court event, Zverev, seeded number three, had a bye. Next up in Ohio is Pablo Carreno Busta from Spain.

“I felt good on the pitch, all week,” said Zverev immediately after his victory: “Recently in Canada I didn’t feel comfortable at all, not even in the games I won there. I hope that My form is getting better and better and I can play good tennis.”

Because Zverev experienced ups and downs before the major tournament in New York (from August 26th) and repeatedly struggled with health problems. At the Olympic Games he failed in the quarterfinals and then had himself checked out. This was followed by the Masters in Montreal, where the round of the best eight also ended: In the game against the American Sebastian Korda, Zverev coughed again and again and complained of breathing problems.

Zverev managed an energy-saving victory against Chatschanow; the 27-year-old was clearly superior and ended the match after 1:21 hours with his second match point. It was his 50th win of the season. At the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Zverev also defeated the Russian in the final. At that time he won the match 6:3, 6:1 and became the first German to win the gold medal in the singles.

At the US Open in New York, Zverev will make his next attempt at his first Grand Slam title. At Flushing Meadows in 2020 he was just two points away from the title before losing in five sets to Dominic Thiem of Austria.
