The Tarran T1 Pro is a new e-cargo bike that is set to set new standards with its exceptional features. Among other things, it is equipped with automatically extending support wheels, a rear-view camera, radar and Bluetooth speakers. In addition, a sophisticated security system is designed to protect the expectedly expensive piece from thieves.

The demand for cargo bikes is rising sharply in Germany. According to the industry association ZIV, 235,000 cargo bikes were sold last year, 189,000 of them with electric drives. The start-up Tarran wants a piece of the growing pie and has presented the T1 Pro at the Eurobike trade fair in Frankfurt. With exceptional features, it is a very special e-cargo bike.

The fully suspended T1 Pro is 2.26 meters long and can carry up to 220 kilos. There is space for two children up to 1.26 meters or three Euro boxes, for example. A child seat with a 5-point belt is installed as standard, and an additional seat can be mounted on the rear luggage rack. The supporting electric drive offers a torque of 100 Newton meters. It is powered by two batteries, each with 708 watt hours, which should enable a range of up to 200 kilometers.

    Motorized support wheels

A special feature of the T1 Pro are the support wheels that are located under the transport box. They each have their own motor and extend automatically when you brake and the cargo bike becomes so slow that it threatens to tip over. They also retract automatically when the speed is high enough for a stable ride. The support wheels are sprung to adapt to uneven terrain and can also be operated manually.

There is a 5.2-inch touchscreen on the handlebars, which not only provides access to range, driving data and other parameters. It also shows images from the rear-view camera, and smartphone mirroring allows you to control music and calls via the display, which can be heard via integrated Bluetooth speakers. Handlebar buttons control the lights, support wheels and selfie camera.

Safe in traffic and from thieves

The rear camera, together with an integrated radar, is also part of a safety system that monitors traffic behind. If vehicles are approaching, the system warns the driver by vibrating the handlebars and simultaneously displays live video streams on the screen.

Another camera is directed forward. With a 180-degree field of view, it is designed to compensate for potential visual restrictions. Safety is also increased by an “intelligent lighting system” consisting of high and low beams, indicators and brake lights.

Tarran doesn't want to reveal how much the T1 Pro costs until the end of the year. But it's safe to assume that the cargo bike won't be cheap. It's all the more important that the e-cargo bike also has comprehensive theft protection: as soon as the power supply is interrupted, the guard mode is automatically activated. It detects vibrations and triggers an alarm, while simultaneously starting a video recording. The integrated GPS module should enable the bike to be precisely located in an emergency, so that the location of the T1 Pro can be tracked at any time.
