The low -cost airline Ryanair complains about taxes and fees in Germany and announces that it will significantly reduce its offer at the capital airport BER from the coming summer. Several travel destinations are affected.

The airline Ryanair is expected to reduce around a fifth of the offer at the capital airport BER next summer. “The reason for this is the horrendous access costs that the German government and airport management could not reduce,” said the company.

The number of aircraft stationed in Berlin should therefore decrease from currently nine to seven. Six goals are affected and would then no longer be offered: Brussels, Chania on Crete, Kaunas in Lithuania, Krakow, Luxembourg and Riga. “The government has to do something,” said Ryanair boss, responsible for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Eddie Wilson.

The air traffic in the country has still not reached the Corona level. Development on BER is particularly bad. Here, the number of passengers was only around 70 percent of the pre-crises in the past year. This is also due to the high taxes and fees that affect not only the BER, but also the other locations and, on the basis of which the offer, do not grow.

In addition to Berlin, Ryanair also has locations in Weeze, Cologne, Frankfurt-Hahn, Nuremberg, Baden and Memmingen. It remained open whether the offer should also be reduced there.
