Kuldeep Singh an alumni of Lovely professional university Jalandhar campus who scored 95.96 in the Common Admission Test 2005 shares a few tips future candidates aspiring to crack the CAT:

I am an individual who has appeared for the CAT for a total of 3 times and got a percentile of 90+ every time. I have been thinking of how to put down the necessary steps to create a proper reference guide for aspiring students to follow. The main thing to keep in mind here is that CAT can be cracked by students in a number of ways. One student might be strong in terms of reasoning, someone else might be good with numbers and hence the approach can be different accordingly altogether. So, I would suggest you to just take in suggestions from my side selectively.

The approach to CAT Exam for a student should be such that unnecessary pressure should be avoided at all costs by sticking on to standard ethics jotted down with regards to preparation which helps save a lot of time.

There must be a few things kept in mind before starting preparations:

The CAT exam pattern is not fixed and this is the greatest challenge for a student. A student should not be discouraged by this and just start solving random mock papers. Instead a student needs to focus on his strengths and attempt the sections accordingly. So a student needs to stick to basic materials from a common course book and follow it specifically rather than playing around with a lot of materials which gets you nowhere. Analyzing your performance everytime is really crucial .

These days a lot of questions regarding CAT have become just a case of reasoning and hence answering a lot data interpretation questions helps.

While answering the Verbal and comprehension column the x-factor that’s going to make you click is reading newspapers Every Single day as this accelerates your speed of reading which is the most crucial part here.

I’m not saying that the tips and tricks for quick calculations are useless. But don’t lose heart if you cannot get used to them. Work on trying to maximize your score by attacking dthe sections where you are better.

After CAT if a candidate has scored  90% should ideally get a call from LPU for PI.

The PI round will be a elaborate process where the candidate will be scrutinized and shortlisted based on their performance.

All the best for your preparations.
