Geekom Mini XT12 Pro is a quiet office worker

    -

The Geekom Mini XT12 Pro is a mini PC that is ideal for use in the home office. It is powerful enough for demanding work, but almost always remains whisper quiet. It also offers many ports and fast connections in a stylish aluminum housing.

Not just one or two per year, Geekom brings a new mini PC onto the market every few months. The manufacturer now covers practically every application area, depending on the user's needs. The Chinese company's latest computer dwarf, the XT12 Pro, should meet many requirements. It is powerful and well equipped, but never obtrusively loud. The price-performance ratio is also good.

    Compact and stylish

Measuring just 117 x 111 x 38.5 millimeters, the mini PC takes up hardly any space on the desk. It can also be mounted on the back of a monitor using the mounting plate provided, so it disappears completely from view. But that would almost be a shame, because the Geekom XT12 Pro is certainly impressive with its stylish aluminum exterior.

The side ventilation grilles with large, hexagonal openings are striking and continue on the underside. There are also large cutouts on the back. This not only looks good, but also serves the computer's sophisticated cooling system.

    Strong but quiet cooling

If you open the case, which only requires you to loosen four screws, you will see a copper heat sink on the underside of the lid. If you also unscrew the circuit board, you will find the fan, which also uses copper elements to absorb heat, blow it out via a large fan and suck in cool air.

The test device is powered by a 12th generation Intel Core i9-12900H with an integrated Iris XE graphics card. The chip can access 32 gigabytes (GB) of RAM (DDR4), which is divided into two bars from the manufacturer Lexar. The RAM can optionally be expanded to 64 GB. The primary storage is a 1 terabyte (TB) SSD from Kingston (NVMe x4 Gen 4), and another slot can accommodate a second SSD (SATA) if required.

    Solid performance

This means that the XT12 Pro is not as powerful as the Geekom A7. But the small computer is a powerful office computer that is also good for image or video editing, as long as you don't want to process huge files.

Benchmark tests confirm this. In PCMark 10, the computer achieved around 5840 points, as many as good office notebooks. In Geekbench 6, it achieved almost 9900 points with all 14 cores, and 2380 points with one core. The Intel chip could do even more, but Geekom limits the power consumption to 35 watts, with peaks reaching 55 watts. More would probably overwhelm the powerful cooling of the PC dwarf.

The fan is almost inaudible during normal operation. Only under maximum load does the fan briefly turn on and become noticeable. This can happen when rendering a video, but practically never in office use.

The plugged-in SSD is correspondingly powerful. In the Black Magic Disk Speed Test, it achieved solid values of 2700 megabytes per second (MB/s) when writing and 2800 MB/s when reading, which means the computer is never slowed down.

    Many connections

The range of connections is top-notch. On the front, next to the power button and headphone jack, there are two USB-A ports that achieve data rates of up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbit/s) with USB 3.2 Gen 2. On the back, there are two USB-C ports as well as two more USB-A ports. With USB 4 Gen 3, they achieve data rates of up to 40 Gbit/s.

There are also two HDMI 2.0 inputs and an Ethernet socket, which allows data transfers of up to 2.5 Gbit/s. There is also a connection for the included power supply. The mini PC can only operate other devices via USB, but cannot supply itself with power. On the left side there is a holder for a Kensington lock, but unfortunately there is no card reader.

A total of four 4K displays can be connected via USB-C and HDMI. Alternatively, it is possible to connect an 8K screen to a USB-C input. If you need additional graphics power, you can also connect an external card here. The powerful features are rounded off by fast WiFi 6E.

The Geekom XT12 Pro comes with Windows 11 Pro and currently costs around 750 euros. The manufacturer offers a three-year warranty.

    Conclusion

The bottom line is that the Geekom XT12 Pro offers an attractive price-performance ratio thanks to its extensive features and solid performance. If you are not too demanding and are just looking for a good office computer, you can get away with it for less, for example with the Geekom A5, which is available for just under 390 euros.
