Federal Immission Control Act bans these ovens from 2025

    -

Do you have a stove? Then it's best to take a look at its type plate. Because in some cases, you'll have to call the chimney sweep.

If you don't want to freeze in winter, you should take precautions now. According to the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchV) – specifically according to the requirements of the 1st BImSchV, Stage 2 – only certain wood stoves may be operated until December 31, 2024.

Specifically, these are the following types of ovens:

In addition to the design, the date of commissioning is also important: if this was between January 1, 1995 and March 22, 2010, operation is only permitted if the exhaust emissions are below 0.15 grams of particulate matter and four grams of carbon monoxide per cubic meter. If the limit values are exceeded, the furnaces mentioned face the threat of being shut down from 2025.

However, stove owners can still circumvent the ban. To do so, they must have the affected fireplace converted or modernized by December 31, 2024.

Since time is running out until the deadline, affected stove owners should contact the district chimney sweep responsible for their region now and seek advice from him on possible modernization measures.

Anyone who lets the deadline pass and continues to operate their oven, thereby violating the law, can expect a fine of up to 50,000 euros.

Some models are not affected by the regulation. These include:

A special permit may be required for continued operation. Please contact your local chimney sweep for more information.
